Computers Suck

My new logo for my business card for Out with Mommy

I read a lot about the recent controversial New York Times article “Honey, Don’t Bother Mommy. I’m Too Busy Building My Brand”

Many mommy bloggers are furious about it, but I have to say that today I think the sentiment is exactly on point.  Today I spent I don’t know how many hours sitting in front of my computer.  First it was technical issues with my LAN, then I was drafting some new posts and catching up on comments, then trying to figure out how to put a Twitter button on my blog and then link my Facebook and Twitter accounts.  I also uploaded and edited the new logo for my business card, which took twice as long as it should have because of my graphic design ineptness.  Then my wireless wasn’t working. I was on the line with AT&T tech support for more than two hours.  I still don’t have it all worked out, but I feel robbed of my precious time with my son.

It was a nanny day, but even when Stephen has a babysitter I usually take breaks through out the day to have lunch with him, talk to him, change him, play with him and sometimes even take a short cat nap with him when he goes down for his afternoon nap.

Today it was none of that.  It was peck, peck, peck all day and so much mouse clicking that my wrist bone is rubbed raw from the mouse pad.

The computer sucked away my entire day.  Writing and blogging can be incredibly rewarding, but if you are not careful, computers can suck your life away.

Oh, yeah! That sounds like my world a lot of the time. For a while I was setting a timer for myself on the computer – just like I do for my kids. I need to go back to doing that. I am getting sucked in…
